And I've moved house many times - and downsized too!
My name is Louise, but most people call me Lou and you can too!
I set up Declutter with Lou to help people declutter and organise their homes at times when they need a helping hand.
I’ve always enjoyed helping people to get organised in various capacities, both in the workplace and in my personal life.
Over the last 30 years, I have worked for some of the world’s leading organisations in project coordination and admin. This corporate background has given me the skills to coordinate and organise and think logically about the steps to any project!
In fact, I loved organising so much that, when I moved back to the UK and left the corporate world behind, I decided to launch my own business, Declutter with Lou. I want to help people like you when they need it the most. To find organisation in the chaos, and to provide a helping hand during a notoriously stressful time - when moving home.
Although born here in the UK, I lived in Sydney, Australia for 22 years, returning here in July 2019. During that time I moved house 9 times - twice internationally - and each house move required me to devise solid strategies for decluttering and staying organised.
Each time taught me new ways to refine our planning when moving again until it we had it down to a fine art!
These skills stood me in good stead when my sister and I found ourselves faced with the task of clearing my parents' home of decades' worth of much loved and treasured "stuff". Mum was a very talented artist, so finding homes for her many wonderful craft supplies - beads, leather, string, stained glass, spray paint cans, paper, cards and much more - was a major project in itself.
Moving home is known to be one of life’s most stressful events, but once your family have flown the nest, it may be time to think about downsizing and looking forward to a new lease on life. This is also a great time to consider how you want the next phase of your life to look and feel.
A home filled with memories and laughter often comes with cupboards full of things. They won’t all be able to move with you, and you know what? That’s OK!
Taking the time to declutter before downsizing will not only give you time to relive fond memories, but give you clarity on what you really want to take with you.. If that feels like a lot right now, and overwhelm is taking over, don’t worry - you’re in the right place to find the inspiration, motivation and support you need to actually enjoy decluttering and downsizing to your new home.
I honestly could not have decluttered without Lou’s guidance and support. I could not have tackled it without her, I was so overwhelmed
with it all. She is such a calm person and so motivational. She was an absolute star! I can never thank her enough. I would fully recommend her services without
any hesitation.
We had several rooms where you couldn’t even see the floor due to clutter and thinking “we need to keep everything”.
Thankfully we met Lou last year and were able to call on her services. Over the last few months, we’ve been using Lou’s services to declutter at a pace to suit us.
Lou suggested going room to room throughout the house and it worked a treat. Following her advice, we have managed to keep the items we really wanted, dispose
of the junk and give as many items as possible to local charities.
Why didn't I do this sooner?
That's all I kept saying to myself! And of course it was overwhelm holding me back, but with Lou's help we're ready to downsize our home. I really appreciate that Lou has helped us with rehoming as much as possible and minimising what had to go to landfill, it makes me feel so much better knowing our things will be of use to someone else.
